Map of the Greek Mythological World
Explore the cities, kingdoms, islands, sanctuaries and regions where the stories of Greek mythology take place.
Archaeological and historical locations are shown where they can be identified. Mythic kingdoms and broad ancient regions are marked approximately and labelled as such.
Geography and mythology
Greek mythology is deeply geographical. Stories cluster around particular cities, islands and dynasties: the House of Atreus at Mycenae, Cadmus and Oedipus at Thebes, Odysseus at Ithaca, Minos on Crete and Priam at Troy.
The map also includes broader regions such as Mysia and Colchis. These should be read as geographic context rather than exact points on a modern map.
